Shari Albrecht - Illinois DCEO: "The Midwest CDI helped me to organize the tools that I needed to assist the communities that I serve through the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. During my time at CDI, we discussed the changing development roles in the Midwest, specifically Illinois; and I was able to take those tools home and help my local economic development organizations understand the role that they play in the changing economy of our world. Another aspect of CDI was Business Retention and Expansion; and through the Opportunity Returns Program at DCEO, one of my primary responsibilities is job creation and expansion in the areas that I serve. I was able to improve my skills in those areas through the CDI training that I received. Throughout Central Illinois, downtown revitalization is a major issue facing communities; and by focusing on downtown development, specifically in the Moline area, I was able to pick up many best-case practices that I am able to now share with the communities that I serve."
